Advent, Jeremiah 33:14-16

It’s Advent, friends!!  What a joyous time of the year!!  There is nothing more exciting than preparing for the coming of our Savior.  Welcoming a new-born babe in a manger, seemingly so small and ordinary, who will grow to become the Savior of the entire world!

During the month of December, I will be celebrating the coming and the birth of our Lord.

Today, I am looking at Jeremiah 33:14-16:

The Lord says, “The time is coming when I will do the good thing I promised to the people of Israel and Judah.

In those days and at that time,
I will make a good branch sprout from David’s family.
He will do what is fair and right in the land.
At that time Judah will be saved,
and the people of Jerusalem will live in safety.
The branch will be named:
The Lord Does What Is Right.”

I am sure if we are all honest, we can all admit we have some interesting branches in our family tree: people who are maybe a little different or strange; people who’ve made bad choices; even people who have married your tree to some other very bizarre tree.

David was an interesting character with an interesting family tree.  He made some pretty questionable choices… and his kids?  Well, let’s just say that they would put any family tree to shame.

But God loved David. And David loved God. And God chose that family tree to bring forth His Son, the “Good Branch”, the branch that will be named “The Lord Does What is Right”.

So if I ever feel inadequate… or maybe I just begin to shake my head at my own family tree, I can take heart!  God chose a pretty eclectic tree to bear His perfect Son’s branch.  He loved them, flaws and all… and He feels the same about me.

  1. Oh, yes, I have one of those family trees, Amy! ha! But, like you, I’m so very grateful that Jesus included me in His family tree. In fact, just this morning I was reading in Luke 8 about how Jesus declares that anyone who hears His word and puts them into practice is a member of His family! What a wonderful honor and I’m grateful to sit alongside you, sister, and worship Him!
