Advent, John 1:1-5

Light in the darkness

It’s Advent, friends!!  What a joyous time of the year!!  There is nothing more exciting than preparing for the coming of our Savior.  Welcoming a new born babe in a manger, seemingly so small and ordinary, who will grow to become the Savior of the entire world!

During the month of December, I will be celebrating the coming and the birth of our Lord.

Today I am looking at John 1:1-5:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.   He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There is so much evil in this world, so much darkness.  You cannot turn on the TV without seeing how evil is moving in the world today.  But do you see verse 5?  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  The light… our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ… shines so brightly that nothing the devil does could ever extinguish it!!

I may fail.  I will fail! I do fail. Daily!  But no matter what I do, no matter what failures I have in my walk, my Jesus stays the same!  He never fails!  The devil may defeat me but he will never defeat my Lord!!!  It is a wonderful feeling to know I am on the winning team!!  No matter how often I fumble or fail, the outcome will be the same: God always wins!

  1. Hi Amy! visiting from the Sunday Community! I’m doing my first Advent study this year. I”m excited about spending time in anticipation of our saviour. This Christmas is sure to be like none other. Yay! We’re on the winning team! Happy Sunday!

  2. I didn’t grow up with Advent but several years ago my husband decided we would do it each year. What a wodnerful part of our lives it has become!
Blessings to you as you anticipate the celebration of the arrival of our Savior.

  3. Amy…It is so relieving and comforting to know we are “covered” when we mess up. I love the advent season and always do an advent study on my blog and in my home. Found you at Spiritual Sundays. Thank you for the encouragement today. Blessings.

  4. We are our selves lights – lights of the world. And the darkness has no power over it. That is really a comfort. Thank you for bringing this up, I have not noticed it earlier.

I have written an advent poem I hope the world will like. Find it here.

    Happy advent!

  5. Amen, Amy.

God recently used John 1:1-3 to awaken my soul after a time of just slogging my way through faith and life…He gave me a sweet glimpse of His majesty. That nothing was made apart from Him. And what comfort, that the darkness cannot overcome Him. What a beautiful and glorious truth. Thanks for sharing!! 🙂

  6. I was thinking the same thing about TV, I don’t know why some of the stuff that’s on there was ever thought to be a good idea. You’re right though, there’s always the light to find. Thank you for linking to Super Sunday Sync!

    • Cleaning up what I watch and listen to has been something God has really been pressing upon me lately. It is everywhere! Thanks for stopping by, Rosey! And for taking the time to comment!
