I am participating in the 31 Days challenge on the topic of Praise.
Psalm 19:1 (NIV) The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
I have been a very blessed woman in this life. I could write for countless hours about all the many ways the Lord has blessed me… but today, I want to talk to you about a very special opportunity the Lord gave me in college.
I was very fortunate as a senior in high school to be awarded the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship. This now defunct scholarship gave future teachers a full paid education… and depending upon the college or university you went to, you would reap a myriad other benefits. The scholarship was offered by all of NC’s public colleges and universities, but two private colleges wanted to get in on opportunity. In order to do that, the private colleges had to agree to waive the remainder of their tuition (at least for the first several years) and still offer an outstanding program. I chose to go to one of the private colleges: Elon College (now Elon University) in Burlington, NC.
One of the definite draws to Elon was the fact that they sent their Teaching Fellows on many travel/study tours. In my sophomore year, I went to England where I had practical experiences in the city schools of London, studied art and theater, and traveled throughout Europe.
It was when I was outside of my own familiar surroundings that I began to see how mighty our God really is. First of all, there are TONS of people in this world! God knows the number of the hairs on each person’s head! That’s a lot of hair!!! I was in awe at the magnitude of the world’s population.
But even more moving to me was the grandeur of God’s creation.
Most days, I could hardly take in my surroundings without breaking into tears: tears of joy, awe, and amazement of a great and powerful God so big yet personal enough to care about little ol’ me.
I serve an awesome God! I praise Him for the works of His hands: the clouds, the mountains, the hills and valleys, the flowers and trees… all so beautiful, so stunning. All of creation sings of His glory!! Let us praise the Lord always!!
Today, I am sharing with…
PLEASE, parents! Do not allow your children to sit in the front seat… especially one that has an airbag. Airbags are great. They have saved the lives of millions of people…. but they have also been the cause of many fatalities. Do the research. Make the choice. Protect your children (as well as adults who are vertically challenged!).
